Bóla Adamólèkun

Bola Adamólèkun says of her art:

“I am inspired by the vibrant arts and craft I remember from my childhood in Nigeria, and I am influenced by the sculptural and textural objects that were in and around my family home growing up, from furnishings to textiles. My imagination feeds off the excesses of post-colonial architecture, hand-drawn anime and the sumptuous aesthetics of desserts.”

Using her preferred medium of white sculptural clay, she builds pieces that embody the interactions of her transtemporal cross-cultural influences. Beyond giving aesthetical pleasure, Bola’s pieces invite tactile engagement. In inviting the audience to touch her art, Bola aims to communicate that while hand-building her pieces, she experiences the physical resistance of clay which she sees as part of her artistic process. Alongside her clay sculptures, Bola also creates collages on canvas.
